RM of Excelsior’s story
The Rural Municipality of Excelsior No. 166 began on December 13, 1909, when it was incorporated as the RM of Waldeck No. 166. On March 1, 1916, its name was changed to the RM of Excelsior No. 166, the name it still carries.
Within its boundaries are the villages of Rush Lake and Waldeck and the resort village of Beaver Flat. Smaller places such as Main Centre, New Main Centre, Old Main Centre, Old Beaver Flat and Prairie View are also part of the municipality.
Today the RM is run by an elected council and an appointed administrator, with its office in Rush Lake. The C.P.R. line and Highway 1 run through the area, serving Waldeck and Rush Lake.
